林冬雪习惯性地来到地下车库，这才想起自己的车还在修理厂，两星期前她为了追捕一名嫌疑人把车撞坏了，一口气违反了十几条交通规则，被扣光了分，还因为不服从命令受到了严厉处分。

Lin Dongxue went down to the underground garage(车库) out of habit, reminding her that her car was getting repairs done at the mechanics. Two weeks ago, she crashed her car while she was chasing(追捕) after a suspect. She violated over a dozen traffic rules in a single breath, so all her points were deducted from her license. She also received severe(严厉的) disciplinary(规律的，训练的) action(纪律处分，训练活动) as she disobeyed orders by acting as she did.

她悻悻地往外走，身后传来喇叭声，一辆捷达牌警用轿车在她身旁放缓速度，一张笑嘻嘻的脸从摇下的车窗后面露出来：“冬雪，我载你一程呗！”

Annoyed by the memory, she started walking outside, when all of a sudden, a car honked(按汽车喇叭) at her. A police sedan(轿车，轿子) slowed down and rolled up beside her. A smiling face emerged behind the window, which was being slowly rolled down, “Dongxue, I'll give you a ride!”

“用不着！”林冬雪生硬地拒绝。

“No need!” Lin Dongxue bluntly refused.

“又和你哥斗气了？”机灵的徐晓东察言观色，已经猜出一二，“你说你这是何苦呢？刑侦大队长是你亲哥，这层关系别人想求都求不来，这要是换作我，作梦都能笑醒。”

“Fighting with your older brother again?” Based on her tone and expression, the clever Xu Xiaodong accurately guessed what her situation was, “Why are you acting so unhappy? The criminal investigation unit’s captain is your brother by blood. Others can’t even hope to develop such a close relationship with the captain, no matter how much they yearn(渴望，向往，想念) for it. If I were you, I'd be smiling, even in my dreams.”

林冬雪突然站住，柳眉倒竖地吼道：“所有人眼里我都是大队长的妹妹，从来没人把我当成林冬雪，要当你当去吧，我不稀罕！”说罢，她加快脚步离开车库。

Lin Dongxue suddenly stopped and raised her brows, yelling, “In everyone’s eyes, I am just the captain’s little sister. Nobody has ever thought of me as just Lin Dongxue. If you want to be his sister so badly, then go ahead. I wouldn't long for this position in a million years!” With that, she hastened(促进，使加快，加速，急忙进行) her pace and left the garage.

“我不过随便说说，用得着生这么大气吗？”徐晓东搔着脑袋，一脸不解。

“I only casually spoke about it. What about the conversation made her so angry?” Xu Xiaodong scratched(用指甲挠，划破，抓伤) his head in confusion.

经过几个路口，估摸着避开了徐晓东的必经之道，林冬雪才掏出手机叫了一部网约车，司机几乎是秒接单，可是等了五分钟不见地图上的汽车图标移动，林冬雪拨过去：“怎么搞得，我在这里都站了五分钟！”

After passing a few intersections(交集，交叉点，十字路口), Lin Dongxue calculated that she was not at risk of running into Xu Xiaodong again, as she had avoided his usual route when leaving the precinct(管辖区). Lin Dongxue took out her phone and called for a Wang Yueche. The driver seemed to accept the order within seconds, but after waiting for five minutes, the car icon on the map still hadn't moved. Lin Dongxue dialed the driver, “What's going on? I've stood here for five minutes already!”

司机毫无歉意地说：“美女，不好意思啊，我这边有点状况，能不能麻烦你走过来。”

The driver answered unapologetically(不认错地，不道歉地), “Sorry, beautiful; I'm in a bit of a situation here. Would you mind walking over?”

“算了，我叫别的车吧！”

“Forget it. I'm going to call for another car!”

“别别，我给你打个八折好不好，看见马路对面有家牛肉香锅了吗？”

“No, no, I'll give you a 20% discount, okay? Do you see a beef stew(炖的菜，焦虑，不安) restaurant across the road?”

“看见了，怎么了？”

“I can see it. What about it?”

“旁边有条小巷，你穿过来就看到我了。”

“There's a little alley(小巷，胡同) next to it. You'll be able to see me once you cross the street.”

“真麻烦！”

“So troublesome!”

林冬雪挂断电话，穿过那条小巷，本以为司机说的“状况”是堵车什么的，可是这条路车流稀少，路边有个大叔正拎着水管在洗车，水管是从一家饭店的厨房拖出来的。

Lin Dongxue hung up and crossed the street, and walked into the alleyway. Initially, she had thought that the “situation” the driver spoke of would be a traffic jam, but there were barely any cars around. There was an uncle on the side who was washing a car, using a hose(软管，长筒袜) dragged from a nearby kitchen of a restaurant.

It was a red Changan Eado. Lin Dongxue verified the license plate and confirmed that this was the Wang Yueche which was meant to pick her up.

Lin Dongxue walked over and crossed her arms as she stood next to the driver. The driver was completely oblivious(不知道，未注意，未察觉), and complained as he washed the car, “This damn sparrow(麻雀，矮小的人) could have pooped anywhere else, but it just had to poop(排便) on my beloved(钟爱的，深爱，亲爱的) car!”

林冬雪重重咳嗽一声，司机转过脸，笑笑：“到了？上车吧！”

Lin Dongxue coughed dramatically, and the driver turned around and smiled, “Oh, you've arrived? Step right in!”

林冬雪气得直瞪眼：“你说的状况就是这个，我在那条马路上干等五分钟，你却在这里悠哉游哉地洗车？”

Lin Dongxue stared him down angrily, “This is the situation that you were going on about? I waited five whole minutes on the side of the road, yet you were here washing your car so leisurely?”

“别这么较真嘛，五分钟而已。”

“Don't be so petty(小的，琐碎的，次要的，小气的，狭隘的). It was only five minutes.”

“说得这么轻描淡写，别说浪费别人五分钟，哪怕是浪费了别人一秒，你能赔得了吗？”

“You say it so casually. Even if you were to have wasted just one second of someone else's time, let alone five minutes, would you be able to compensate for that one second?”

司机转过身，脸上仍带着中年男人世故圆滑的笑，眼神却认真了起来：“你非要这么说的话，那我就和你理论理论，从你刚刚站的地方到这里，直线距离只有五十米，可我要开车过去得绕一个大弯，少说得花十分钟，从这个层面上来说，我不是浪费了你五分钟，而是替你省了五分钟；洗车这件事是因为我这人有洁癖，挡风玻璃上沾了一块鸟粪，我看着不舒服，没准就会出事故，再说喽，把车洗干净不也为了更好地提供服务吗？”

The driver turned around, wearing a sleek(圆滑的，光滑的，线条流畅的，阔气的，时髦的) smile fitting a middle-aged man who'd walked through countless experiences in his life on his face. Combined with a pair of stern(严厉的，苛刻的，严峻的，难对付的，认真的) eyes, he argued, “If you must say it that way, then I'll have to undergo(经历) a little theoretical exchange with you. From the place you were originally standing to our present location, it was merely a straight line with a distance of fifty meters. However, if I were to drive, I would have had to go around the block, meaning I would require at least ten minutes to get to you. From this perspective, I didn't waste five of your minutes. Instead of costing you time, I saved you five minutes. With regard to the car wash, it's because I'm a clean freak(狂热爱好者，怪人). There were bird droppings on the windshield, and since I get very uncomfortable when looking at it, it could cause an accident because I wouldn't be able to focus with the droppings in front of me. “Hmph, all these excuses.” Lin Dongxue snorted, “Even if what you say is true, why didn't you take the initiative(倡议，新方案，主动性，积极性，自发性，主动权) to call me earlier instead of causing me to wait for five whole minutes?”

“That was my fault. I just so happened to be using my phone at the time. My mother had cerebral(大脑的，理智的) thrombosis(血栓症) and had just finished her surgery(外科手术) to remove the blood clots(血块), so the doctor gave me a call. Wouldn't you say that's a call that I had to pick up?”

林冬雪被噎得说不出话，道：“得了得了，少打感情牌了，赶紧开车！”

Lin Dongxue was speechless, “Okay, I get it, I get it. Stop playing the sympathy(同情，赞同，支持) cards and just start the car already!”

坐进后座，林冬雪看见执照上写着“陈实”这个名字，陈实调整了一下后视镜，一双不怀好意的眼睛正巧落在林冬雪胸口，他开口问：“美女，上哪呀？”

Sitting in the back seat, Lin Dongxue saw the name “Chen Shi” on the license displayed. Chen Shi adjusted the rear-view mirror a little, and a pair of shifty eyes fell on Lin Dongxue’s chest area. He opened his mouth and asked, “Where are we going, beautiful?”

After a period of silent driving, Lin Dongxue noticed that there were a pair of leering(色迷迷的) eyes focused on her, making her very unhappy. She patted the shoulder of the driver's seat, “Watch the road, alright? Stop being such a pervert(变态，性变态者，性倒错者).”

“I'm not staring at you. I'm currently observing you.”

林冬雪气得笑了：“观察什么？”

Lin Dongxue breathed out a laugh, “What exactly are you observing?”

“你肝火有点旺，是不是最近经常失眠，早上起来口苦，舌苔重？”

“There's an internal fire within your liver(肝脏). Are you finding that you have insomnia(失眠) as of late, morning bitterness in the mouth, and a white tongue?”

“略知一二罢了。”陈实笑笑，从置物柜里取出一包烟。

“I know a few things here and there,” Chen Shi smiled and took out a pack of cigarettes from the glove box.

“喂，不要在车里抽烟，有点礼貌没有？”

“Hey, don‘t smoke in the car! Don’t you have any manners?”

“我就是看看还剩多少，不行吗？”陈实把烟盒摇了摇，扔回去，“美女，干什么工作的？”

“I just wanted to see how many were left, or is that not allowed?” Chen Shi shook the packet and threw it back inside the glovebox, “What type of work do you do, beautiful?”

“要你管！开你的车！”

“None of your business! Just drive the car!”

Chen Shi smiled, “The place where you got into the car is two streets away from the police station. It also just so happened that a few police cars drove out. Hey, can you divulge(泄露，暴露) a little information on what kind of case you guys are currently investigating?”

林冬雪本不想说，但她想借机报复一下对方，虚张声势地说道：“网约车司机杀人案！”
